ABOUT AHHD
Care from someone who understands.
AHHD was founded on the belief that every dialysis patient deserves compassionate, personalized support from someone who understands the journey.
Founder Athena Aubrey understands dialysis from both sides of the machine. After experiencing kidney failure as a young mother, receiving dialysis, and later undergoing a kidney transplant, Athena returned to the dialysis community as a Certified Hemodialysis Technician.
Together with her husband and co-founder, Darell Aubrey, she created AHHD to help patients receive dependable, one-to-one support in the comfort of home.

HOME HEMODIALYSIS
Understanding care at home.
For patients and families who are new to home hemodialysis, understanding how treatment at home differs from traditional in-center care can make the transition feel much less overwhelming.
Better Health Outcomes
More frequent home treatments may support better blood pressure control and reduced fluid retention compared with a traditional three-day-a-week in-center schedule.
Flexibility Around Life
Home hemodialysis may be scheduled more frequently in shorter sessions — or overnight — based on your physician’s prescribed treatment plan.
Medicare Coverage
Medicare Part B covers 80% of eligible home dialysis equipment, supplies, training, and support services.
Home vs. In-Center Hemodialysis
Both provide life-sustaining dialysis treatment, but the setting, schedule, and day-to-day experience can look very different.
| Feature | Home Hemodialysis | In-Center Hemodialysis |
|---|---|---|
| Frequency | Often 4–6 days per week, as prescribed | Typically 3 times per week, as prescribed |
| Location | Patient’s home | Dialysis clinic or center |
| Flexibility | Schedule can be built around daily life | Fixed center schedule |
| Environment | Familiar home setting | Clinical environment |
| Travel | No routine travel for treatment | Regular travel to and from the center |
